EARTH DAY!

What better day than earth day to start a new earth related blog? To start, here is what we did so far on this beautiful (somewhat cold) day! My kids and I headed into town on foot, armed with our water bottles and snacks to get a few groceries and visit the pharmacy. The walk there is about 1.6 miles (via google maps), so total walk time was about 3.2 miles and on the way home we visited the playground (which of course is the best part). While there I picked up a little trash and thought about heading back to clean up more. This is a big possibility for this week. Teaching Parker not to litter and to clean up after ourselves would be a great little life lesson. Especially after his pitched his smoothie cup on the ground while we were walking home and of course was corrected right away. Littering is a huge pet peeve for me, even when people flick their little cigarette butts out their cars! As a mom I really would rather not have my kids pick up used cigarettes, thank you very much! After Lilah's nap we are going to head to the gardening store and work on our project for the back yard. We are for the first time going to plant some yummy veggies and fruits (updates to come!). We also walked to the grocery store on Monday instead of driving (I would have taken the bike but pulling both kids gets really tiring, especially when the grocery store it up hill!) This walk was 2 miles there and a total of 4 miles. So we kept 7.2 miles off our vehicle this week, which is a little number but if I walk 10 miles a week instead of driving we could save 230 miles in one summer! That's a much bigger number. ;) Also, helps me get my work outs in while spending time with the family and helping our bodies to produce some vitamin D.

For those of you who like your purchases to make a difference here is one way to help out and get some awesome tees as well! Threadless is doing a great little earth day offer, Threadless . Check it out! Buy a tee and plant a tree! ;) This is going to be my purchase for the day; Awesomeness!

What I love about threadless is that they give individual artists a chance to shine and sell their work. They don't get the total proceeds but they do reach alot of people and we get to view their awesome work.

Peace. Love. Hope. Faith!

Littering is also a pet peeve of mine. The parks and highway around us, on the island, in Niagara Falls and Buffalo are disgusting. I was at the park the other day and there was a water bottle which was ironically one of the new less plastic one...that doesn't mean it's better for the environment if it is thrown on the ground. Cigarette butts are annoying too, those are the worst, how hard is it to throw them away.

Heck yeah Crystal! It is so important to keep our planet and ourselves free of litter and polution! I have also taken up walking to places and carpooling as much as possible. Also when we go to the park (specifically the disc golf course) i find it so irritating that people still throw their trash on the ground! why wouldnt you want to keep such a beautiful place Beautiful!!! I constantly pick up trash and throw it in the garbage cans (which are only every couple of holes or so!) Thanks for doing your part to keep our Earth clean! Happy Earth Day!!!

Becky, totally! I thought it was so weird to see how much dirtier New York was than Michigan! I thought it was bad here, it literally makes me cringe when I see trash at a playground. I mean, do you go to your friends houses and throw trash in their living rooms?

Emily, that is what I don't get! Nature is so pretty, why crap on it. Ya know?
